Peter Harburg's Queensland based RP66 Black Jack is this evening's Audi Sydney Gold Coast Race leader. According to navigator Ed Smyth they were blasting along in 25-28 knots of breeze at 9pm this evening and pointing towards home on record pace.

26/07/2010 Governor's Cup final day - RNZYS wins, CYCA team finishes 4th
In their rematches on Sunday, RNZYS and NHYC Segerblom were the winners in the first two races. The winner of the petit final for third place was the Royal Port Nicholson team of Matthew Steven, Tim Coltman and Chris Jones. The New Zealand team won over their neighbours, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia team of Jay Griffin, Will Parker and Ted Hackney, who placed third in the 2009 Gov Cup.

25/07/2010 Ladies Luck - Sou' South-Easterly Winds for Closing Ladies Day Race of the Audi Winter Series
The team onboard 61 year old Erica J, with Louise Stevenson at the helm got into the fun of the day with each crew member wearing a Lucille Ball blonde wig. The wigs did not hinder their performance as they came up with the win in non-spinnaker Division B.

25/07/2010 The Gov Cup's Final Four
In the other semi-final match between NHYC Segerblom and CYCA Griffin, Griffin was a little ahead of Segerblom after the first windward mark. On the downwind leg, Segerblom rolled past Griffin, although Griffin was on the inside approaching the leeward mark and rounded the mark six seconds ahead of Segerblom. At the next weather mark, Griffin continued to lead Segerblom downwind. In an exciting finish, Segerblom passed Griffin downwind to win by six seconds.

CYCA Coach Rob Bell reports that the CYCA team of Jay Griffin, Ted Hackney and Will Parker had another really good day. "The team finished the day with 6 wins and 2 losses and look like we should comfortably make the semi-finals".

On Wednesday evening 16 June, over 240 CYCA members and their guests were entertained with photos and videos that accompanied stories delivered by Alex and Peter in a laconic style that was sometimes at odds with the places they had been and the feats they had achieved. "That was where Berrimilla had 85 knots..." was just one of the notable quotes from the evening.

21/07/2010 Rolex extends naming rights sponsorship of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race to 2015

At the Annual General Meeting of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, outgoing Commodore Matt Allen announced that Rolex SA will extend its naming rights sponsorship of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and its associated regattas, the Rolex Trophy One Design and Rolex Trophy Rating Series, up to and including the 2015 race.

Those seas and wind against current will pose the first major tactical decision for skippers - whether to head offshore to find the northerly current that acts as a sort of conveyor belt south, but at the cost of pounding into steeper, bigger waves which can damage the boat, or to stay inshore where the waves should not be as steep.
